Flower: Girl’s hair clip

Ruthie says, “Aloha!” 🙂

On another note, I’ve been working on a story. It doesn’t have a title yet (I usually come up with titles at the end of my writing) but I am still very proud of it! Let me know what you think in the comments.

I woke up screaming. And honestly, that’s not the weirdest thing I’ve ever said. Suddenly, I felt my feet carry me to my sister, Carmen’s room. I popped my head in and found that she was fast asleep-it was only 3 o’clock in the morning. I shook her awake anyway. “Pack a bag,” I whispered. “We need to get out of here.”

Rylee!” Carmen tugged on my arm. Her hands were cold and clammy, and I wondered if she’s really been sleeping. “What’s going on?” She asked. Her voice quavered. “Just pack.” I instructed her. Five minutes later, we left the house, hand in hand, and watched it blow up behind us.

Our parents left us when Carmen was only a baby. I was four. I took care of her. By myself, without any friends. I didn’t have any anyway. We lived in a little cottage on Nutmeg street, and an old lady had given us her house when she saw us. Well, we used to live there, before it blew up. I knew something was wrong. I’d felt unsafe since the moment I’d entered through the creaky little door. As my sister and I crept through the night, I felt a twinge of pride at getting us both out safely. A few minutes later I heard something crack. Carmen looked up at me apologetically. She’s just stepped on a stick. I shoved her out of the way as I heard someone-or something-coming.

A boy, about my age, towered over me. “Someone is trying to hurt you,” he remarked. “No, really, kid? What are you doing at this time of night? How do you know me?” I demanded.

” I don’t.” He retorted, then recoiled. “I’m helping you. I saw something blow up, was that your house?”

Who is this kid, Captain Obvious?

He continued, ” You need to come with me…your life is forever changed, and your sister’s might be too, so you’d better cooperate.” I reluctantly agreed and followed him through the trees of the forest that was as dark as my thoughts.

His royal obviousness (I mean, the boy) pulled me after him and the three of us finally sat down on patches of grass and twigs. “So, did I make a good first impression?” He asks nervously. I wanted to punch him. “The first thing you said to me was, ‘someone is trying to hurt you’! What kind of a first impression is THAT?!” He hid a smile. “Okay, let’s start over. I’m Aaron. Very nice to meet you. Ummm….sorry, didn’t catch your name?” I rolled my eyes. ” Should’ve thought of that before you dragged me through a bunch of trees,” I muttered, picking a leaf out of my hair. “I’m Rylee.”

“Uh, Rylee?” Aaron called. “What?” I growled.

“Are you, uh, hungry?”

“Do you see a McDonald’s anywhere here?”

“No…”

“Then no, I’m not hungry.” And with that, I turned over and tried to sleep.

CHAPTER 2

After a terrible night’s sleep, I actually did feel hungry. Aaron came into the clearing just then and popped something into his mouth. “Berries,” He explained. Want some? I nodded as he dropped a few red berries into my palm. Carmen groggily yawned, “Where…are… we?”

“Ask him,” I pointed at Aaron, who groaned.

“Look, I know you’re not happy to be here,” he said. “But I can explain…”

“All right, then.” I answered cockily. “Explain. Why am I here? What do you mean, our lives are ‘forever changed’?”

“I don’t know how to tell you this,” Aaron sighed finally. “But Elaine is after you.”

I gritted my teeth. “Who. Is. Elaine.” My patience was seriously wearing thin with this guy! “Don’t you know anything?” Aaron shot back. “She’s the evil witch who hates children…wears a long dark blue robe…has willowy blond hair, walks with a staff?” This was all useless information for me. Carmen, however, seemed to understand. “I-I’ve seen her,” she managed. “In my dreams.”

“Your dreams?!” Aaron shrieked. “You dream about that?!”

“Er, my nightmares?” Carmen sounded confused, and so was I. “It sometimes keeps me up at night,” she admits.

Aha. So I was right. “But, how does this help?”

My sister is the first to speak this time. “Oh, Ry, can’t you see? Now we know why we are in danger. We can save ourselves.”

I think this is all crazy, that there is no possible way that this is my life. But for now, I must escape. I must run.
