AG, We Want You Back.

Do you know what a breakup feels like?

I don’t.

But I’m starting to get an idea.

So many of us in the AGBC are “breaking up” with American Girl.

AG is trying so, so hard to make their products more “modernized”.

And I really, truly, hate it.

I do.

Here’s a list of things they are changing:

-sewn on underwear

-squishy vinyl

-selling them at Toys R Us, Kohls, etc.

-awful packaging

-new dolls that don’t even look like they’re from AG.

So, AG, you caused this breakup. And if you want us back, make your company go back to how it was. Because right now, I’m not an American Girl Fan.

In fact, I would’ve stopped loving them a long time ago, if it wasn’t for buying Brooke. I’d wanted her for so long that I just couldn’t resist, so… I bought her, and that revived my interest in AG. But now it’s dying again. I have zero motivation to play with my dolls, and I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting old or whatever, but I know that I don’t want to be a fan of them right now.

To be honest, this started when I saw the new mini dolls. They. Are. Creepy. And it hasn’t gotten better.

And if you’re thinking, “Maybe it’s for the best, maybe some people will like the changes they’re making…”

Stop.

Just stop.

And think it over.

Because, if YOU picked up an AG catalog for the very first time TODAY, and you saw all these dolls with curved hands and squishy vinyl and sewn-on undies, would you be first in line to buy one? Or would you not even be in line at all?

Exactly.

My Trip to The AG Store- 1/1/17

Hi guys! I had a great time at the AGP yesterday, and took a lot of pictures. I went with two of my friends, and the car ride was super fun (even though my dad was singing Let It Go :P)

*excuse the quality of the photos, please. As I’m sure you’ve heard from other bloggers, the lighting in the AG store isn’t very good.

This was my first time going to the AG store with my camera- so I felt a  little conscious as I walked around. I saw someone watching me take pictures, like “Wow, she still likes dolls?! Isn’t she a bit old for that?”

Yeah, I’m old, ok?

First picture of the day, in Downtown Chicago walking to the store.

Here she is, Gabriela McBride!! She is beautiful, but honestly I am mad that this is the FIRST African American GOTY and she’s not even new or original. They spent so long developing Grace Thomas’s and Lea Clark’s stories, why couldn’t they do that for Gabriela?
I’m in love with Melody’s hair.
Samantha looks like an angel ❤
My friend’s Josefina doll and the one in the store. (It took a while to get this photo because my friend’s Josie has loose limbs and I couldn’t stand her up.)
Brooke and Josie. (See what I mean? Josie looks like she’s keeling over and throwing up.)
Wow, Grace needs to eat more. It looks like Kit’s been starving her.
The Wellie Wishers are really cute! Willa’s my favorite.
Here’s a better photo of Gabby. They were doing a raffle to win a free doll! (I didn’t enter, though.)
Brooke and Brooke. (Is it just me, or does my Brooke look chubby?!)
O.o
The only reason I would buy this set is for the apples and the Uno game.
My friend and I couldn’t stop looking at this doll. She’s so pretty! ❤ I took wayyy too many photos of her.
“Who’s this weirdo?!”
#66 is also GORGEOUS. (even though she looks like she’s eating her chin in this pic.)
Sorry for that gross visual xD
LOOK AT ALL THOSE DOLLS O.o
Tacky green shirt… :3
Another picture of #44. She looks amazing in this.
Creepy doll bangs…(I told my other friend to buy them as a prank/present lol)
AHHHH IT LOOKS SO REAL ASDJFKL.
This coral skating dress is so cute.
Anyone else mesmerized by her eyes?

Leaving the store! Here’s where I noticed that me & Brooke were kind of matching. Black shirts, colorful pants (mine were army green), and brown boots. 😛

I did buy something small at the AGP! I’ve been wanting it for a really long time.

At first I was devastated because I looked for it everywhere in the store and hadn’t seen it yet. When I checked the availability for it online, it said ‘not available in this location’. I refused to give up, and found it way in the back of the store by the AG restaurant.

REVIEW: STRIPED HOODIE FOR DOLLS

AAAAAAHHHHHHHH.
IT’S SO CUTE.
The sweater is really awesome quality, and it’s lined with fleece to keep my dolls warm.
Yeah, I changed Brooke. I thought this outfit would look better with the sweater.
i didnt want that to rhyme i swear xD

(my brother came in just as I’m typing this. He grabbed Brooke and flipped her in the air. Brooke fell facedown on the bed. Sigh….)

And she fell right after I took the picture, too.
The star on the back.
The hood!
it’s all good in the hood LOLOLOL
I have to say, I’m impressed. I thought the hood would look really bad, but it looks good-great, in fact! AND, there’s no weird slit!
The sweater zips up like a real human one would. ❤
(we’re kinda matching again, haha.)

Overall, I would definitely recommend this sweater, and it’s well worth the price!

Did you go to Gabriela McBride’s debut? Did you buy anything?

Adios, mis amigas!

Camp Dolliwatha, Week Seven: Make your doll into a Knight in Shining Armor!

Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to week seven of Camp Dolliwatha! My theme is Fantasy/Fairytale. 🙂

Loren, Clara, Marissa, Josie, Grace, Anna, and I have been working hard to come up with crafts- and their posts were great, so be sure to check them out! 🙂 Here’s how to turn your doll into a knight in shining armor.

You will need a lot of tinfoil, scissors, a doll dressed completely in black, and tape.

Start by ripping/cutting out rectangles of foil. Two smaller ones for the arms, a larger one for the bodice, and two medium-sized ones for the legs.

Wrap the foil around your doll’s arms. Always do arms first! Here you can see that her arms are finished and that she has a large piece of tinfoil on top that looks like a poncho.

Wrap that around your doll’s stomach to get something like this:

Half done! 😀

I polished up my mistakes- in this photo, you can see that the top of her “armor” looks less sloppy. To do this, just take pieces of foil and cover any open areas. It should resemble a long-sleeve t-shirt.

Now take the pieces that you’d cut out for the leg and d what you did for the arms. Wrap it around, and tape in place if needed.DSC07665Now, you have two options for this. You can either just wrap it around your doll’s waist like a skirt, and tape in the back, OR you can put the sheet under the doll, and fold it up on her diaper-style. XD I went with the second option.

Here she is, in all her glory!!!

This. Is. So. Uncomfortable.

She was pretty much falling over when I tried to get this pic XD

Now it’s time to make a fun prop. Materials needed:

I used thick white craft foam for the sword, in case you were wondering. 😉

Cut out pieces shaped like this. The one on the right is basically a T shape.

Take that one, and a long piece of black electrical tape. Wrap it around the handle of the T.

Now, cover it with tape,

Trim off any excess,

Until you are satisfied. (The handle ended up being too long, so I cut it after I took this photo)

For the blade, cover the triangular shape with a smaller piece of foil. Trim. Because I was lazy, I just taped it onto the handle. 😉 As a detail, I used some shimmery nail polish on the handle.I think it looks pretty cool! 😀

Now for some extra pictures:

A brave knight and a fine steed. <3<3 ❤ ❤

Did you like this craft? It is a bit time-consuming, but worth it in the end! 🙂 If you do make this, email Loren (happyhouseofag@gmail.com)  up to 3 pictures and they will be featured in her Camp Dolliwatha recap post on Saturday.

Bye!

The 2016 Dollympics: Gymnastics

Gymnastics. One of the most dangerous sports in the world. But these fearless three women are up for the challenge- meet the Innerstar U gymnastics team, Saige Copeland, Brooke Adams, and Ruthie Smithens!

Saige walks into the gym wearing a cute warm-up outfit, carrying a drink from Starbucks. Her  hair is swept back in a high ponytail which shows off her beautiful waves.

Push-ups.

She gives a wave to the crowd and begins her floor routine!

And she finishes her routine in a split. Something old, but Copeland is keeping  it classy!

Brooke Adams, a rookie gymnast, (it’s her first time competing in the Dollympics) has become loved dearly among her fans. They call her Brookie Cookie, just like her sisters!  😉

Here she is, pre-games, stretching.

Brooke’s floor pass begins with a side aerial, followed by a half twist. She shoots herself into the air perfectly, but her landing is a bit rough.Minor deduction, so she shakes it off, keeps going.

She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath… then runs into her next pass.

After Adams sticks the landing on her front handspring, front tuck, she launches into a dive roll. The photographers couldn’t keep up with her amazing speed!

Breathlessly waving to the crowd. 🙂
Our last contestant of the day, Ruthie Smithens, enters the gym in a sporty outfit: Gym shorts and an ‘I ❤ Gymnastics’ tee. Here she is warming up before her big performance.
Ruthie holds a flower given to her by a little fan-how sweet!

Side aerial.
Double back handspring, finished with a tuck jump.
I think this is a skill she made up herself…

Saige Copeland is back, this time on beam.

Before mounting the beam.

Cartwheel onto the beam,

Her foot slips. Did the judges catch that?

Front walkover.

After a few more skills, Saige dismounts the beam with a full twist. Impressive!

Ruthie begins her vault with a deep breath and powerful running.

A second delay, but she makes it over with success and a big smile!
Brooke is not competing in event two, so we will now switch to bars.
Here she is!
Pullover,
Straddle.
A few more swings, and she dismounts. Perfect landing!
Saige,
Mounting the bar.
Underswing,
Handstand,
And a dismount. Nice!
Ruthie is not participating in round three.

Tremendous effort has gone into these three girl’s routines. Great job, and good luck!

Make sure you check out Meg and Michelle’s blog, and Ginnie’s blog for more awesome Dollympics posts! Thanks for reading!

With love, the girls, Meg, Michelle, Ginnie, and Rutvi ❤

Review: Lea Clark’s Celebration Dress

Today I’m combining some pictures I took a long time ago with what you, my amazing readers, said you wanted to see. (more reviews, more of Brooke) So, I have some pics of Brooke modeling Lea’s Celebration dress. (I’m not certain she’s wearing the gold shoes that came with the dress. Oops. I will still give you my opinion on them, though.)

Lea’s celebration dress is made of a soft white material. It is sleeveless, and the skirt has 3 ruffly layers. There is intricate embroidery at the neckline and the border of each skirt layer. The thread colors are beautiful and go perfectly with Lea’s tropical theme.

There is a gold belt attached to the dress. It’s thin and sparkly. It adds quite a bit to the dress, though I feel that if the dress didn’t have the belt, it would seem more elegant than it actually is. It might be more convenient if it was removable, then the dress could be fancy or a bit more casual.

The hairband can be used for your doll’s hair or as a necklace. It’s made of beads: here’s a couple of closeups.

^^she looks like a redhead lol^^

It does a great job of sweeping her hair back and keeping it out of her face.

Three strings of beads, with an elastic band keeping it on her head. It’s a bit chunky and I think the dress is better without the hairband, but it is cute.

^^Closeup of the BEAUTIFUL embroidery^^

{image via ebay, this does NOT belong to me}

The gold espadrilles are absolutely adorable. They have a braided…thing as a layer and make your doll look a bit taller. 😉 They’re like chunky heels. Super cute! They velcro in the back, but anyone can easily slip them on without using the velcro.  They have two straps that wrap around the ankle, and a butterfly with a tiny stone on it. Like a lot of AG shoes, they have a huge tag. I cut it off. Problem solved! 🙂

The dress fits snugly and looks so, so, cute!😍

Bonus photos:

Fun fact: these pictures were taken in my parent’s bathroom! Weird, right? I liked the lighting, it’s really different.

A lot of my you have also been saying that my site keeps crashing. I resized these photos, so it SHOULDN’T crash this time, but do let me know if it does.

Look out for an Outtakes post! 🙂

(This is post number 100! Woo-hooooooooo!!!!!!!!)

The 2016 Dollympics

Hi, everyone, I’m really sorry for abandoning blogging for almost 2 weeks. When I get back from vacation on August 8, I’m going to start something called the Dollympics. Each day I’ll post a mini photostory/photoshoot centered around a different sport. Just thought I’d give you a heads-up on that! Your job will be to give the doll an Olympics Score for each performance.

ALSO, I will be teaming up with Ginnie at Faking it Mostly and Meg and Michelle from Canadian Doll Notebook for the Dollympics! I was ecstatic that they asked me, and we have been hard at work planning.

Questions? I’d be happy to answer. 🙂

Let the dollympics begin!

The Star-Spangled Sister~ a Photostory

“Do you see her anywhere?”

“Nope.” Ruthie and Brooke sighed impatiently.

They were waiting for me, since I was riding Gingersnap in the 4th of July parade.I pulled my loyadorable horse along (I made up that word. It’s loyal and adorable put together.) I was decked out in patriotic clothes and excited.“Heeeerreee, Gingie….” I heard the familiar crunching sound of Gingersnap biting a bright, red apple.Brooke pointed. “Look, there she is!’I then mounted my horse and gently steered her forward. “Good boy!” Out of nowhere, my sisters started screaming. “Saigie! Saigie, we’re over here!” I groaned. Not only were they totally embarrassing me by using my childish nickname, they were making Gingie nervous.I cupped my hand and politely waved hello, but they continued to jump up and down.

Suddenly, Gingie gave a snort and tossed his head. He was getting riled up and distracted and I debated whether or not to pull the reins harder to control her. That wouldn’t have worked. I found myself ungracefully jerked away and carried towards Brooke and Ruthie. They were acting like crazy people.  They thought this was part of the show!

I finally got him to stop. “What do you want?” I asked. ” You guys massed up my part of the parade!”

“I don’t think anyone noticed,” Brooke said quietly.

“I’M LEADING THE PARADE! OF COURSE THEY NOTICED!” I exploded. She blinked and shrunk back a little.I’d done the wrong thing. I’d have to apologize later, though-the parade was waiting. Ruthie seemed to be in no hurry as she combed out Gingie’s mane. I was getting very annoyed. “Hurry up, will you?!” Ruthie chuckled. “We always wait for you to brush your hair before we go anywhere. Chill.”

Finally, Gingersnap’s brown mane gleamed and was parade-ready.

I wasn’t…yet.

“Hey, guys….I said sheepishly. Want to lead the parade with me?”

They smiled and gave me a thumbs-up.

“Okay, then. Let’s do this.”

Behind the scenes/bloopers: Hehe, like my ring? 😛 XD

I saw a pretty yellow canary when I was taking the pictures for this post! 🙂 ❤ Saige dropped the reins. Oh dear.

***

It was a bit awkward taking photos of my dolls on the street in front of my house, and it took a long time for the setup. I definitely got some what is she doing??? kind of stares from people but I didn’t mind too much.

Happy Fourth of July from the crew at Buzz About AG!
